A little bit about Helen, the Captain of our ship

I grew up in rural Devon, my Father a Green Grocer, my Mother the daughter of a butcher, so from an early age food quality was always very close to my heart. I trained at Exeter College renown for it’s catering department, I worked for Shaul Bakery Exeter, a well-known family owned bakery.

After moving on and working for Sainsbury’s bakery department (Leading UK Supermarket) for a number of years, Helen and her business partner decided to ‘go it alone’ and opened their own Bakery “The Baker Oven”, in Sidwell Street in Exeter – which proved to be very successful. The original birth place of the Famous UGLY BUN

When I’m not in a Bakery, you will find me out walking on a beach somewhere, with Poppy, my Spoodle dog in tow.

A little bit about Helen, the Captain of our ship

Having grown up in Devon, UK as the daughter of a Green Grocer, food has always been very close to her heart. In her teen years, Helen went on to train as a Baker at Exeter College in the UK, working alongside Shaul Bakery, a well-known high street bakery chain.

After running the bakery for Sainsbury’s (Leading UK Supermarket) for a number of years, Helen and her former business partner decided to ‘go it alone’ and opened their own Bakery “The Baker Oven”, in Sidwell Street in Exeter – which proved to be very successful.

Growing tired of wet winters, Helen decided to take her skills ‘down under’ moving to Australia in early 2000. It was then that she began working as Bakery Manager for MJ Creations. Nine years later, she bought the business from her employers and it has since gone from strength-to-strength, now employing six staff (although if you ask Helen, they’re her extended family, not employees).

Never one to sit still, when not in the Bakery, you will find Helen out walking on a beach somewhere, with Poppy, her Spoodle dog in tow.
